Here is your daily project update:

The Low Down on Las Vegas
As I have mentioned in this week's daily e-mails, I have been in Las Vegas for the Western Republican Leadership Conference. Yesterday, I mentioned I would tell you about my interview with Mr. Cain.

Before we talk about Mr. Cain and what he had to say, I would like to tell you about "the press"…

It doesn't take long to tell who from the press has dignity and who does not. For instance, I ran into someone I had met at the CPAC Florida conference from the Washington Times, and he was so professional in both settings. I also met a few new friends from the Weekly Standard, and they were also mannerly and dignified, knowledgeable, and informed. Interestingly, I find both of these news sources reputable.

Our videographer and I were setting up for our time slot with Mr. Cain, which was right after he finished his talk at the conference around 4:30 p.m. in a side conference room. One of the members of the press was asked to leave. But somehow he sneaked back in when Mr. Cain entered and proceeded to attack him about something obscure.   He showed no remorse for stealing my time slot.

When we finished, we opened the door to a sea of press. When Mr. Cain finally walked out, they all snapped pictures and fired questions like, "Mr. Cain, is it true you are profiting personally from your campaign?" He almost had to be dragged away by his staff…

Herman Cain, like most candidates, is polarizing. From the emails I’ve received there seems to be one central theme. It’s over his involvement with the Federal Reserve.

To clear this up, Mr. Cain was the deputy chairman and chairman of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He served in these positions between 1992 and 1996. And we should take note of any candidate's involvement with the Fed…

However, the tricks Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke plays are more exaggerated than they were during times when we had a stronger economy. And Kansas City's morals and culture are quite different than Washington D.C.'s…

So, whether Herman Cain supports the way the Fed currently operates is undetermined, but his involvement with the Fed is something to note…

As you may already know, Cain has talked a lot about his 9-9-9 plan. He believes this will increase voter equity, but the plan has been criticized for being regressive instead of progressive. After looking at some different numbers, we can't be sure how it would play out.

But before Wednesday, Cain hasn't said much about a balanced budget.

During our conversation, he told me he plans to implement a balanced budgetwithin 90 days of taking office. And this balanced budget will be for the year he gets into office, which would be 2013.

We look forward to receiving the plan explaining 9-9-9 and the balanced budget from his office, conducting an analysis, and filling you in on the highlights.

In the end, Herman Cain's greatest strength is something difficult to quantify… within moments of meeting Mr. Cain, I understood immediately he is a man who can overcome obstacles. And he commands respect.

Having said that, the Project is not "backing" any particular candidate. The Project simply wants a president in office who will help facilitate an atmosphere conducive to passing these three amendments… a balanced budget amendment, sound money backed by gold, and the right for every individual to keep 80% of his income.

We support the candidates who share our goals, and here is my goal… to give you better information than you will find in the mainstream media. Then, as an informed voter, you can make your decision on who to vote for. And we will be hearing from other candidates in the weeks and months to come as well.

And remember, our real work will be in getting new officials on the local level in our own communities to sign our pledge. We will soon be putting our "boots on the ground" all over this country. So the presidential election is just one aspect that could facilitate our goals…

Thank you for traveling to Las Vegas with me. Next week, we are going to California.

Regards,

Wendy Bidwell
Director, The Project to Restore America

The Project to Restore America is a non-partisan call for a fiscally-responsible government, to bring true freedom to Americans as outlined in the Constitution.

Each day, we will be sending you the most timely and important news and information on the three "pillars" of The Project:

Balanced budgets for every level of government
Sound money backed by gold
The right for all Americans to keep 80% of his/her income

This has nothing to do with Republicans, Democrats, or whatever political party you belong to. The system we have today has delivered ALL of us to the doorstep of national bankruptcy. Unless we reform the way we govern our country, by adopting the three Project "pillars" as amendments to the Constitution, we will lose the liberty that is our birthright as Americans.

That is the goal for The Project to Restore America. Ultimately, our community will be a powerful vehicle for change.

Let's move quickly!
