A Deadline for Greece Referendum Starts Risk but EURUSD Hestitates
The top scheduled event risk for the day was the FOMC rate decision; but markets proved far more sensitive to the commentary that followed a meeting between European officials and Greek Prime Minister Papandreou on the recently announced referendum. An update that set the vote to December 4th or 5th and commentary from German Chancellor Merkel and French President Sarkozy that lends to a high probability of a Greece exit from the EU escalates the concern. The immediate reaction was more prevalent with risk trends than it was with the Euro; but both will be under pressure through Thursday's session (especially with the ECB rate decision on tap).
